The Scratching Post Cat Cafe

World class Coffee, accompanied by adorable Cats!

What is a cat cafe anyway?

A cat cafe is exactly what it sounds like. A cafe that provides a safe, clean, happy and cage-free environment for kitties of all shapes and sizes. It's a place where you can curl up with a book in your hand and kitty in your lap! Cat cafes offer a unique experience for both cats and humans!  Cats will be able to live in the cafe, free of cages and spoiled by you and our staff, not to mention they're all adoptable! They also provide an opportunity for some stress relief! Cuddling and petting cats is scientifically proven to lower your heart rate! The concept began in Asia and quickly spread to the UK and now the United States.

   >CAT  LOUNGE  RULES

Our kitties must be treated kindly and with respect to keep them happy and healthy. Following these simple rules will ensure a positive experience for both you and our cats.

  1. Don't pull a cat's tail, ears, whiskers or fur. Ouch!

  2. Don't wake a sleeping kitty.  Instead, take a picture of one! They're so cute when they sleep.

  3. Never attempt to pick up a kitty. Ask a staff member to help!  Some cats don't like to be held. While others will like to cuddle with you!

  4. Take lots of pictures but without the flash. Cats have extremely sensitive eyes that can see in the dark. Flash photography can damage cat's eyes.

  5. Don't give human food to cats. Our cats are well fed and many of the food products and beverages in the cafe, like coffee for example, can make a cat sick.

  6. No children under 5 years old. Anyone uner 14 will not be admitted without an adult over 18.

  7. Enter the cat lounge at your own risk. Even though cats are cuddly and adorable, they are still animals and may scratch or bite!

MISSION

The Scratching Post Café, Wilmington’s first Cat Café plans to offer delicious, fair trade Guatemalan coffee, organic teas, and healthy food options for Wilmington residents and visitors! We are first of our a kind here in our area, offering delicious refreshments all while being able to play and hang out with adoptable, cuddly kitties! Our ultimate mission is to give cats a loving and comfortable environment until they get adopted and get to go to a loving home!

  • When you arrive, please purchase your drinks and food first. If you'd like to enter the "cat Oasis" its a small $5 fee. With award winning coffee from Folks Cafe, pastries from Spoonfed Kitchen and sandwiches from Farmin, we’ve got lots of options for you that stand out on their own. If you choose not to make a purchase, we will charge an admission fee of $6.

  • During our non-peak hours, there’s no waiting to get into the cat playpen. However, should we reach maximum capacity, once you get your drink, we’ll ask you to line up outside of The Cat Cafe along the wall so that the Fire Marshall doesn’t have any problems.

  • We don’t limit the amount of time that customers can spend in the cat playpen. However, if there are people waiting to get in, we ask that our customers be considerate. Please help us accommodate others by leaving when you’ve gotten your kitty fix.

  • You can avoid the lines and see the cats when they are much more active by visiting The Cat Cafe during our non-peak hours of 8 to 10.

  • Most of the time, reservations are not required to mingle with the cats here at the Cat Cafe. We do offer a limited number of reservations during our peak hours so that we can accommodate those who need to be able to get in at a specific time. These need to be booked at least 24 hours in advance and paid for at the time of booking. If you don’t have a reservation and you visit during our peak hours, please understand that there may be a wait.
